music style: pistol pop/electropunk
from: Amsterdam (the Netherlands)

website: www.310k.nl (go to 3-1)
myspace: www.myspace.com/31live

short bio:
Formed in Maastricht in 1997, 3-1 started with the idea to create a collective of artists, musicians, graphic/interaction designers and vj’s. In 1998 they moved to Amsterdam and based themselves in a squatted hospital. From there 3-1 started growing as a band and performing live at parties. After the hospital they moved to an old film academy building where they still have their studio.
3-1 has done about 130 live performances in clubs, festivals, galeries, musea and other venues in the last 4 years. They played loads in Holland but also in France, Japan, USA, Germany, Spain, Belgium and Poland.
The music is called ‘pistol pop or electropunk’, it is a mix of electro, breaks, punk, acid and rock’n’roll. The name ‘pistol pop’ fits the music but it even more the full live show. The thing about a 3-1 show is the raw and surprising aspect. There is live music, video, performance and a lot of show. Its something you will enjoy cause it will hit you like a bullit.
Anyway, enough crap talk, just go and see em.

THIS IS HOW THIS WORKS
An interpretation of Aux Raus
Lecture by William Mumler

Aux Raus was founded in 1545, following the re-discovery of the pentatonic scale. During the almost 300 years of colonial rule the working conditions in the band were so appalling that often, band-members survived no more than 6 months. It has been estimated that between 1545 and 1825, 8 million band-members died.
The music reforms of 1952 brought some bands - including Aux Raus - under government control, and music conditions improved. The government bands had to stop in the early 1990's because record sales fell. Most operations are now in the control of musician-owned cooperatives. All work is done by hand under conditions that have changed little from the colonial period. Today, Aux Raus ?or, what's left of it - consists of the two sole survivors Bastiaan Bosma and Luuk Bouwman. All words are ambiguous and even children knowthat because of this the possibility of a complete interpretation is impossible. Language shapes us and can give us a surplus of possibilities. It can also narrow down things: we often find ourselves playing the roles we are expected to play. Think of the neo-punks who continually misperceive their middle finger as provocation rather than an automatic response shaped by linguistic structures over which they have no control.
Rock is repeating itself. Why then start another band? Why do girls like horses? What exactly is the power of Grey Skull? Yet another example of the settled bedrock of cynical rationalism that inspires the academic scientist. As for Aux Raus, the messenger is more important than the message, and vice versa.

artist: Elle Bandita

releases:
-some tunes (compilation cd)
(06-06)
music style: electro
from: Rotterdam (NL)

website: www.ellebandita.com
myspace: www.myspace.com/ellebandita

short bio:
Elle Bandita is a one-woman-formation (Elle Bandita means sort or less: ‘She, the band’), consisting of a girl, a 4track taperecorder and a screaming guitar. The music is kind of a
mix between elektro, punk and heavy rock with nut-cracking solos. It’s all about the fun, but also contains some messages of social criticism. It all started Spring 2004, when Elle
Bandita got her hands on a drumcomputer and a multitracker. She made tons of songs during that period, and collected some of ‘em on a demotape, which was immediately very wanted in the Rotterdam-area. She appeared as an unnamed act at a soon to be legendary Halloween party, with 5 songs and a lot of blood. After that, people wanted her to come out and play, which took a couple of months to organise. But on March 25 2005, the birth of Elle Bandita was a fact. In a club called Nighttown (Rotterdam) she got everybody overwhelmed by her first
official gig and kept screaming for more, which they still do.

Elle Bandita grew up in the suburbs of Rotterdam, where she faced a lot of people with homophobic and fascist views. Ofcourse, being a punk, everybody thought she looked like a
boy, and people made fun of her because of that. And ofcourse she didn’t care about those stupid fucks, but started a counter-attack. Elle Bandita IS the counter-attack. Revenge is always sweet, but can be fun too. Love her or hate her. Do whatever you like, but don’t bother her with prejudiced speeches, cuz she might use her mic to fill up that little empty hole in yr brains, or, even worse: she could write a song about you...

artist: Melomanics

release: some tunes (compilation cd) (06-06)
music style: electrorock
from: Amsterdam (NL)

website: www.melomanics.nl
myspace: www.myspace.com/melomanics

short bio:
If you want to attract attention in the Amsterdam bandscene you have to be special. MeloManics was founded 4 years ago and consists of Ben Olgers (drums), Guido Schuurman (guitars) and Jeroen Joosten (electronics). A self-willed band with a self-willed sound who’s got a sound that combines synthpop and rock ‘n roll and has a name which literally means “a sickening love for music”.

And being special is what these three are all about! Their live shows are synonymous for well dressed and styled suits and an enthousiasm which is overwhelming as well as liberating. No wonder that impressed everyone at the GreatPrice of the Netherlands 2004 and picked up second price.

After that the band played on almost all club stages in the Netherlands and did a great deal of (dutch) summer festivals, including the free 300.000 people Parkpop festival. They’d also played, on designers invitation, at a fashion show in Paris.

Reviews of their November 2003 released EP “…From the Factory” were extremely positive: “It’s a beautiful cd with a, for our era, very peculiar idiom” and “MeloManics make dance songs without being dominantly electronic and rock music without sounding macho”.
Also national radio got an eye on the band and played their cd on regular basis. As a “thank you” the band supported de stations playing live in the studios.

For the band, 2006 will (again) be a productive year. They will release their first official 12-inch single in early april. After that there will be some extensive touring throughout the Netherlands.
Under the influence of a great deal of bands, such as: Kraftwerk, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Daftpunk, Zoot Woman, New Order, Faith no More, Devo, the Rapture, Primal Scream, NERD and Bloc Party they have created an ever increasing fanbase.

MeloManics sounds,--opzwepend---, organic and dirty as hell !!!

As a result of an unsuccessful alien abduction, 'Miss Wendy Pussy', member of a garage rock band, began showing too much interest for the electro sound, and was interned for ' musical schizophrenia'.
This is where she met Dsildah, a shabby guy. He thinks constantly travelling between two virtual worlds, one influenced by punk-rock & skate, the other rhythmed by filthy post-tekno beats.
So, being quite a revelation to the each other, they decide to unite their respective worlds into a common musical entity, named "Three cheers for dirty".
Rumour has it; they work in a nook of the basement B4, between the landerette and the garbage. Influenced by bands such as 'Les Georges Leningrad', 'T. Raumshmiere', 'Duchess Says', 'Kap Bambino' & 'Prodigy', 'Three Cheers for Dirty' make for some absolute unpredictable live acts, mixing a great deal of energy with a kind of arty happening.

music style: electropunk
from: Berlin (GER)

website: www.mignonmusic.com
myspace: www.myspace.com/mignon

short bio:
Preluded by a seductive melody and followed by distorted guitar. Mignon taunts the devil and raps:“...watch out lucifer, you´re dead meat, I´ll come one day to steal your noble seat!“....

„Catchy lyrics accompanied by electro groovebox, heavy metal guitar, and a highpitched rockbitch upfront. Mignon’s lyrics are as domineering as they are playful, demonic beats and slithering synthesisers crawl at her feet as she consumes and projects all the music’s hellish glory. Mignon the merciless never leaves a boast unwarranted; you’ll know this if you have ever caught one of her live performances. She will however, leave you enslaved by her metallic, satanic, rap trapping electro-voodoo Mignon´s live show, rocking and shocking, erupts with a violent combination of face-paint and smoke-bombs. Nurses and Military ensembles, fake knives and Freddy Kruger-esque gloves all get their turn. It’s almost as if Rob Zombie had raised her from the dead and sent one too many bolts of electricity to the brain. As Mignon heightens the pace, her heels flying far off the floor she performs with gratification and that alone compels you to dance like the devil.“
Mignon´s stage presence is so comanding that Peaches has taken her around the world. They charmed England at the Leeds and Reading Festival in 02.Australia and New Zealand for the „Big Day Out“ also Spain, Germany and Poland. They also sprayed the scent of rock while supporting „Queens Of The Stoneage“ and And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead in Northamerica through the fall of 2002.

Mignon has been steadily displaying her metalbitch performance to an enthusiastic audience since early 2002.She played at the New York Electroclash-Festival and Arthur Bakers Festival in London“ Return to NewYork „ opening for Pink Grease. Mignon played allover Europe and played Festivals in Germany,Switzerland and France, opening for Ellen Alien and Chicks on Speed. Transformer di Roboter is a duo. Transformer di Roboter has been around the Berlin electronic music scene scince late 2002. Transformer first started out by doing electronic covers of heavy metal hits. Those quickly turned to remakes of Michael Jackson, NKOTB, Eminem etc. and have recieved wonderfull feedback. Consequently Transformer got to play over 100 shows all over Europe since then. Transformer has released Ep s on Wmf-Rec and Deco. Planet-Mu, Diamondtraxx, Lado, Whitelabel and Metrohead are some of the labels on which Transformer has made compilation contributions. "Enough of them silly covers": Currently Transformer is focussing on their own songs but remains loyal to their off beat electronic pop sound. All of Transformer di Roboters music is supported by a strong VJ concept by Dutch video artist Arno Coenen, with whom Transformer preferably likes to perform, when schedules allow.
By the way, the members of Transformer Johannes Malfatti and Alexander Kloster (both originally from West Berlin) are also involved in projects such as Dånzen Jetzt (Klangkrieg), Ensemble (Rephlex/Fat Cat {collaborator with Bjork}) and Chlorgeschlecht (Deco) which has earned "Honerable Mention" at the Prix Ars Electronica in 2004.
Finally, Transformer thinks that it's best not to get all too theoretical
about things, so please feel free to check out Transformer di Roboter and VJ Arno Coenen online, the rest is self explanatory.

Just like his father, he started to play the guitar but after 10 years of practising and playing with several other musicians, he discovered the electronic music world. After experimenting with Cubase and Reason, his fascination increased and from one passion to another, he started DJ'ing. First with vinyl and later with Virtual DJ on the PC. In 2007 he started to create his own electro trash tracks. His motivation: "Transfering his own ideas about electronic music from his head to reality."

Gaétan has played a long time as bass player in different HxC and Metal bands like "Coffee Spoon", "Weda", "Submerge"... and Audrey has been the main singer of the Punk HxC band "Affliction" for several years. But all these bands have splitted now. Always with a strong rock influence, and after these HxC bands experiences, Gaétan and Audrey have listened more and more electro and electro trash music (Squarepusher, Aphex Twin, ATR, CSS, Robots in Disguise, Kap Bambino, Aux Raus...) and decided to create their own electro band together, so was born "Monkey Maer".
Gaétan is also working in music recording and sound mixing for bands with his own home studio, and Audrey is actually also working on others electro music projects with local artists. They have not yet performed their music in live conditions, but of course it's a dream they aim to make true as soon as possible.

You’re getting more beautiful when forgetting that you’re beautiful anyway. The Plemo and Rampue rocket is fueled with music as dreamfully as in 1968, precisely as in 1985 and fattened up as in 2009. After completing classes in the study of electronic music and MIDI, they began producing their debut E.P. along with a number of remixes.
artist: Klipar

releases: Black Cake (2010)
music style: electro, fidget
from: Lisbon (POR)

myspace: www.myspace.com/klipar

short bio:
He went to school, like most of us. He got a glimpse of love in school, like most of us. Unlike most regular people, however, Klipar (also known as Diogo Cunha) also took school as an opportunity to get started as a DJ – playing those parties where drinking and kissing go hand in hand (you know the type – we’re sure you were there too). Soon after, he took a stab at trance (playing with projects like Son Kite, Sun- Project) and realized how somehow, DJing made total sense. These days, the sound has changed, and the skills improved. He’s playing Disco and House, Electro and Fidget – and people are paying attention. Now being a regular at Mini-mercado, all eyes are on him.

La Fuga (2010)
music style: electropunk / trash
from: Forli (I)

myspace: www.myspace.com/brilliantsmusik

short bio:
BRILLIANTS duo project was born in the late 2006, in a small city called Forlì, in the north-east of the mafious Italy.
Their music is a combination of electro sound with a rotten bass and they are very appreciated by DJs who love to remix their songs.
They so had even some funny remixes made by djs from Italy and also abroad.
Now is hard to find ways to talk about the band, but the techno-punk, new-wave and post-something ‘80’s influences, are always the basement of one speech thought BRILLIANTS.
Maybe they enjoyed inspiration from musicians like Gang Of Four, Talking Heads, Joy Division, to arrive to the Justice, Mr. Oizo, Kap Bambino and so on,
but pieces of that stuff are presumibile to be find in their fuzzy sounds nowadays.
After have toured all along Italy for circa two years, supporting and being supported by very nice bands and DJs from all over the world,
they’ve just been in Austria two times for some mini tours,
everything seemed to be so much appreciated from the new stranger European guys and now they want to conquer the Dutch people !

In 2008 they won 2 JIM Maniacs festival contests for Suikerrock and Tommorowland. And they also played on events like Laundry Day, Travesti Monsters (FR) and Disco Riot (DE).

In 2009, Aerotronic introduced a brand new live set. Performing as well audio, as visual material of their own. (09-09)
-some tunes 4 (compilation cd) (05-10)
music style: electro
from: Utrecht/Amsterdam (The Netherlands)

myspace: www.myspace.com/boemklatsch

short bio:
Boem, klatsch. Kick, snare. It’s as simple as that. It was just as simple in 2001 when Boemklatsch threw their first party on a boat in Utrecht. 20 euro’s, open bar, and dj’s spinning hiphop records. Nine years later the group of 7 creative friends has grown into a colourful, energetic collective who give a tear-the-roof-of guarantee to everyone who books them. The crew is known to be ahead of the pack in all types of uplifting electronic music, and they still don’t mind partying harder then their audience.

Boemklatsch strated out as a hiphop crew. When a hiphopact came to Utrecht (their hometown) you could be sure it was Boemklatsch that brought them there. The climax in their hiphop days was a sold out Tivoli venue with a line up of just friends from the Utrecht scene. Together with oa C-mon & Kypski and Nobody beats the Drum they rocked the crowd, and the roof came of for the first time.

From 2005 onwards they spread out their wings and started doing shows in Amsterdam and other cities in Holland. Back then you could already tell they weren’t just hiphop purists. They incorporate the newest styles of dance music into their territory and present it in a unique style. Rugged and with a black soul.

Boemklatsch consists of 3 dj’s, a host and 2 vj’s. You can always pick out Dj/producer Mike Mago (Michiel Thomassen) by his wool beanie, even in summer. Dj/producer $jammie the Money stands out because of his colourful dress and his hard-hitting choice of tunes. Dj Illvester is the most eclectic of the 3. He’ll mix in an indie record without hesitation. MC Atactic (Dharmen Nokhai) would be perfectly happy if he could shout through a megaphone all day. VJ-duo Ramkraak (Roel Oude Nijhuis & Mark Assies) fill the screens with explosive and creative visuals.

Doctr is a young producer/DJ from Amsterdam. He's been drumming since he was ten years old and played in several bands. During this period he played a big variety of musicstyles. His current band "De Hardheid", a ska/punk band from Amsterdam, stopped playing on a regular base since the summer of 2009. This is the beginning of a period in which he started producing his own songs. Just for the fun of it, he came up with the "Spicy Ycips" album. Some of the songs were noticed by his friends "Vinnie Donnie & Sjakie". This leaded to his first DJ-set at the "Amsterdam Dance Event" in October.
Now , signed at New Cake and Basserk, and with his first official releases on the web, a new exciting period starts. Doctr keeps on producing new songs and keeps on playing songs of fellow artists that he likes in his DJ-sets.

short bio:
After exploring boundaries between breakcore, drum'n'bass and metal in the crossover band ‘Kaito Komplex’, it was decided it’s time for a new sound. A sound that focuses more on electro and four-to-the-floor, but is still raw, still in your face and still 100% party. This resulted in an energetic, electronic live act under a new name: Kaito. Consisting of three bandmembers, coming form other acts like Destination Zero, Zarathustra and Kudra Mata, this new alliance is bound to succeed in their mission: PARTY TILL YOU DROP
Claimed victories in previous bands are:
- 1.000+ shows
- 3 European tours
- 2 USA tours
- multiple Dutch music awards
artist: Moore & Lezz

short bio:
FTake some true electro, grab that fine techno. Add those floorfilling classics and hey, don’t forget the fidget house! Moore & Lezz blends it all.
This pair of producers sounds new to you? It shouldn’t be, for Moore stands for Mr. Moore and Lezz, well, that’s Komputerist. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
Mr. Moore is no stranger to the rougher electronic styles. His intriguing sets have gained fame with the crowd. Ears are treated to a harmonic blend of minimal, electro and techno music, which can turn into an utter benefit for the event. Mr Moore played with several legends such as Claude Young, Mason, Mark EG, T-Quest, Dr Lektroluv, Dj Godfather, Umek, Dada Life, Alter Ego, D.I.M., Redhead, Jack de Marseille, Swirl people, The Subs, T-1000, Bart Skillz, 2000 and one, Luke Slater, Monica electronica and Alex Gopher among others.
Komputerist is on the same level as his companion. He gained his fame by playing as a warmup DJ for several major national and international DJ’s. Think DJ Assault, Derrick May, Dada Life, Dr. Lektroluv and many others on the well-known events. Most recognizable about his sets is his diversity in styles. Techno, tech-house, electro and a touch of ghetto-tech are mixed fluently into his dynamic sets.
Now, Mr. Moore and Komputerist have joined forces. They have their residence at the Kickerz events, bringing their diversity towards the crowd. New sounds are still to come, as Moore & Lezz are producing a lot, bringing their music to the highest level.
Moore & Lezz: sounds like the perfect match.

It all started in the summer of 2009 when Matthew , who was a producer in the jump scene, joined the electronic path of Matthias and Wietse.
Inspired by legends like The Bloody Beetroots , Polymorphic , Pro7 , Mightyfools , Felix Cartal , …..we are trying to make our own style and are still trying to make it sound as original as possible. In the future we would love to play live like The Subs our Belgian half gods…. But for now we are only doing dj sets. Also thanks to Basserk Records to believe in the future of our project.

short bio:
2009 Has been a good year.
It has definitely been a intense period for this 24 year old dj/producer from Utrecht.
A lot of progress has been made, especially over the last 6 months.
Debut ep “Bass Rage” came out on Basserk Records in October, a remix was done for BoemKlatsch, and Shock and Awe gained support from many dj’s/producers and labels across the globe. Ever since, things are going fast,
Having said that, we can see itʼs already a very busy year for Shock and Awe. Ep’s and remixes are lined up for early 2010 on Lazy Rich’s (Big Fish Records),NuStyle (UK), Big Poppa Records (SA) and the massively supported Modifi Music(UK).
To make things even prettier, Shock and Awe will be teaming up this year, with one of Englandʼs biggest talents, “Luvstuff” on a tour in April in Holland (Also featuring Mike Mago).
No doubt this will result in some fat new tunes.
“Shock and Awe” is sure to be a name you’ll be hearing about a lot more in 2010.

short bio:
TCS is the new project of the former 3-1 boys. Again it’s an audio visual experience but it’s not as agressive and punky as it was before with the 3-1 crew.
TCS stands for ‘Three Curious Shapes’ and tells a strange story about a Triangle, a Circle and a Square. It is dark and mysterious but a wicked live video, music show. They played their first show in summer 2010 in the Museum of Image and Sound in Sao Paulo (Brazil) and then in October at the Amsterdam Dance Event in Amsterdam. At the moment they are working on a release but what that will be is still a surprise.

His intense passion for funk, which makes his music uncomparably danceable, characterizes his rather unique style. Berus Temizbas (22) does not always travel solo. As the producer and DJ of "Schluck den Druck" he helps the mighty discoverers of the bassspring to turn international stages into broadways. His latest solo project „Chokr“ has been released on the label „Dirty Disco Tracks“, which belongs to the young Viennese wunderkind Dirty Disco Youth (DIM MAK Records). On this project Berus focuses on harder beats and remixes of various international artists. Whoever enjoys the special sound, be it live or recorded, can be cool as a cucumber as nothing will prevent them from at least kissing the air.

short bio:
Kurt a.k.a Clash The Disko Kids, is a familiar name in the Singapore party scene famous for his hand picked selection of only the finest in underground experimental Disco, House & Techno. With absolutely no intention of pleasing the mainstream party posers, he defiantly stick by his morals to feed the passionate techno and disco heads with brain sizzling tracks that never fail to satisfy. Meanwhile, his tracks have already received support by industry heavyweights such as Bart B More, NT89, Dem Slackers, Supabeatz, Gtronic, Sound of Stereo, Sharem Jey and Mumbai Science to name a few. Heavily influenced by the Belgian-German techno sounds, his tracks will keeps the clubbers dancing and shuffling till they dropped.

Turning industry heads since they first started rockin’ in 2002, Kurt has steadily risen in popularity outside their tiny little island and have been in fierce demand for gigs in Europe, Mexico, the US and the Asia region.

Leaving the crappy bubble gum commercial music to the amateurs, this Disko Kid doesn’t rely on a big crowd to promise a good party. As a self proclaimed nocturnal being, Kurt prefers to keep his activities out of the sun and behind the decks, dedicating his free time locked up in his personal asylum while concocting bpm blasting, ear bleeding mixes to please his loyal followers.

Not to be mistaken as just another pretty boy DJ, Kurt chooses to express his personality through the one way he knows best – his music.

soundcloud: www.soundcloud.com/monopunk
twitter: www.twitter.com/iammonopunk
facebook: www.facebook.com/m0nopunk

short bio:
Monopunk, a DJ/producer from Glasgow, Scotland. He got his first set of turntables at the age of 13, roughly the same age he found his passion for electronic music and began learning the ropes of djing. To begin with he loved all things hardcore & rave and had an almighty selection of old skool vinyl, he slowly progressed through each dance genre from year to year from trance to house to techno and eventually landing at the harder end of the electro spectrum, to be honest he loves most electronic music whether it be house/techno/dubstep or whatever but when it comes to it, it’s the huge distorted basslines/synths on a solid 4/4 beat that really gets him going. For years he have dj’d at various events around central scotland and this is exactly what he thrives on....the performing, whether there’s 3 people or 300 people on the dancefloor he’ll still be going daft behind the controls. When djing you can hear him drop anything from Vitalic or Modeselektor to The Subs or Bloody Beetroots. Nowadays he has also moved away from vinyl or CDJ’s to a more personally versatile digital setup using Ableton Live.

In terms of production he has been serious about it now for about 6 months (starting September 2010) and in that time his sound has evolved quite a bit but what he is ultimatley going for in the majority of my productions is hard, dirty, bass influenced electro which to be honest is what he knows best and feels most comfortable producing. He is constantly learning new things when it comes to production and has ideas buzzing around his head 24/7 which he is always desperate to turn into reality. He hopes ‘Expo EP’ is the first of many and he’s going to continue producing as many dancefloor wrecking tunes as he possibly can for the forseeable future.
