music style: pistol pop/electropunk
from: Amsterdam (the Netherlands)
website: www.310k.nl (go to 3-1)
myspace: www.myspace.com/31live
short bio:
Formed in Maastricht in 1997, 3-1 started with the idea to create a collective of artists, musicians, graphic/interaction designers and vj’s. In 1998 they moved to Amsterdam and based themselves in a squatted hospital. From there 3-1 started growing as a band and performing live at parties. After the hospital they moved to an old film academy building where they still have their studio.
3-1 has done about 130 live performances in clubs, festivals, galeries, musea and other venues in the last 4 years. They played loads in Holland but also in France, Japan, USA, Germany, Spain, Belgium and Poland.
The music is called ‘pistol pop or electropunk’, it is a mix of electro, breaks, punk, acid and rock’n’roll. The name ‘pistol pop’ fits the music but it even more the full live show. The thing about a 3-1 show is the raw and surprising aspect. There is live music, video, performance and a lot of show. Its something you will enjoy cause it will hit you like a bullit.
Anyway, enough crap talk, just go and see em.

artist: Aux Raus

music style: gabberpunk
from: Amsterdam (the Netherlands)

short bio:
THIS IS HOW THIS WORKS
An interpretation of Aux Raus
Lecture by William Mumler
Aux Raus was founded in 1545, following the re-discovery of the pentatonic scale. During the almost 300 years of colonial rule the working conditions in the band were so appalling that often, band-members survived no more than 6 months. It has been estimated that between 1545 and 1825, 8 million band-members died.
The music reforms of 1952 brought some bands - including Aux Raus - under government control, and music conditions improved. The government bands had to stop in the early 1990's because record sales fell. Most operations are now in the control of musician-owned cooperatives. All work is done by hand under conditions that have changed little from the colonial period. Today, Aux Raus ?or, what's left of it - consists of the two sole survivors Bastiaan Bosma and Luuk Bouwman. All words are ambiguous and even children knowthat because of this the possibility of a complete interpretation is impossible. Language shapes us and can give us a surplus of possibilities. It can also narrow down things: we often find ourselves playing the roles we are expected to play. Think of the neo-punks who continually misperceive their middle finger as provocation rather than an automatic response shaped by linguistic structures over which they have no control.
Rock is repeating itself. Why then start another band? Why do girls like horses? What exactly is the power of Grey Skull? Yet another example of the settled bedrock of cynical rationalism that inspires the academic scientist. As for Aux Raus, the messenger is more important than the message, and vice versa.
Aux Raus is part of the label: Nuevos Ricos

artist: Drillem
release: some tunes (compilation cd (06-06)
music style: electropop
from: Amsterdam / Utrecht (NL)
website: www.drillem.com
short bio:
It was love at first hear for this electronic duo from the Netherlands. Drillem, a match made in music, is the result of a remix contest for La Kidda’s song titled ‘Cats or Dogs’, which Jillem entered and obviously won, since the duo has been collaborating on tracks ever since. The harsh, simple and sexy beats produced by Jillem and the colorful vocals typical of La Kidda build the components of this dynamic duo’s music. The music actually feels like listening to a comic book, this is also depicted in their visuals courtesy of the multi-faceted Jillem, not only is he a talented music producer, Jillem also owns and operates a graphic design studio located in Amsterdam called Beng (www.beng.biz).
Shortly after releasing their first demo, Drillem was invited to perform at one of the most respected progressive art & music festivals in Holland, Motel Mozaïque. Receiving rave reviews, airplay of their first release (Whomb-12”-Labelized/Lowlands SHIM 0069/002) on both Dutch and Belgian (Studio Brussel) radio and a live broadcast of their show on national radio, demanded the duo out of their home studios and onto the stages of various Dutch venues and festivals.
The name Drillem, represented by their drill-logo, actually came about by chance. Jillem and his wife Andrea were expecting their first child and were trying to come up with a unique and creative name. By combining Jillem with Andrea they came up with Drillem, didn’t become the name of their first-born, thankfully, but became the duo’s catch word. Expanding on the drill-idea, seen as the more masculine tool, the blow dryer was added, clearly representing the more feminine side of Drillem, and both devices can be seen creatively used as musical instruments during their live performances.

DUMB VOX – not just banging on logs!
The act of music-making brings together the three clearest identifiers of human culture. - Artistic expression, Communication, and Technology. One could say that this has been true ever since the first drum was constructed, most likely of a hollowed-out fallen tree. Presumably, this newfound instrument would have been used to communicate some meaning between people. "It was a good hunt today; come over and enjoy the BBQ!"
Simply pounding away on a log with a stick however, would not have produced desirable results. Communicating via such an instrument would have required some skill and prior agreement between the people involved, as to what meaning should be attributed to which beats.
The most recent incarnation of the musical instrument is the virtual electronic synthesizer. Our modern instruments are constructed solely of computer code. It could be argued that, given the scope and versatility inherent in modern electronic music systems, it is now easier than ever before to express real meaning and artistic sentiment through music. Unfortunately, a great deal of musical "meaning" seems to have been given-up in trade for the ubiquity of modern technology. The result is a veritable plethora of musical noises, which can sound as square and calculated as the machines which pump them out. - Like so many monkeys fascinated by the myriad technical aspects of the newfound instrument, banging on logs with total disregard for any meaning or artistic sentiment.
At DUMBVOX labs, we are attempting to focus on artistic sensibilities. Esthetic symmetry, beauty and creativity accompany our technical skill in composition and system analysis. Together, Olaf and Bojan form a classic team, consisting of a technician and an esthetician. A symmetry in balance; Yin and Yang if you will, creating a synergy greater than the sum of its parts. We are attempting to communicate feeling, the very essence of art.
…What do you feel?

artist: Elle Bandita
release: some tunes (compilation cd (06-06)
music style: electro
from: Rotterdam (NL)
website: www.ellebandita.com
myspace: www.myspace.com/ellebandita
short bio:
Elle Bandita is a one-woman-formation (Elle Bandita means sort or less: ‘She, the band’), consisting of a girl, a 4track taperecorder and a screaming guitar. The music is kind of a
mix between elektro, punk and heavy rock with nut-cracking solos. It’s all about the fun, but also contains some messages of social criticism. It all started Spring 2004, when Elle
Bandita got her hands on a drumcomputer and a multitracker. She made tons of songs during that period, and collected some of ‘em on a demotape, which was immediately very wanted in the Rotterdam-area. She appeared as an unnamed act at a soon to be legendary Halloween party, with 5 songs and a lot of blood. After that, people wanted her to come out and play, which took a couple of months to organise. But on March 25 2005, the birth of Elle Bandita was a fact. In a club called Nighttown (Rotterdam) she got everybody overwhelmed by her first
official gig and kept screaming for more, which they still do.
Elle Bandita grew up in the suburbs of Rotterdam, where she faced a lot of people with homophobic and fascist views. Ofcourse, being a punk, everybody thought she looked like a
boy, and people made fun of her because of that. And ofcourse she didn’t care about those stupid fucks, but started a counter-attack. Elle Bandita IS the counter-attack. Revenge is always sweet, but can be fun too. Love her or hate her. Do whatever you like, but don’t bother her with prejudiced speeches, cuz she might use her mic to fill up that little empty hole in yr brains, or, even worse: she could write a song about you...

artist: Melomanics
release: some tunes (compilation cd (06-06)
music style: electrorock
from: Amsterdam (NL)
website: www.melomanics.nl
myspace: www.myspace.com/melomanics
short bio:
If you want to attract attention in the Amsterdam bandscene you have to be special. MeloManics was founded 4 years ago and consists of Ben Olgers (drums), Guido Schuurman (guitars) and Jeroen Joosten (electronics). A self-willed band with a self-willed sound who’s got a sound that combines synthpop and rock ‘n roll and has a name which literally means “a sickening love for music”.
And being special is what these three are all about! Their live shows are synonymous for well dressed and styled suits and an enthousiasm which is overwhelming as well as liberating. No wonder that impressed everyone at the GreatPrice of the Netherlands 2004 and picked up second price.
After that the band played on almost all club stages in the Netherlands and did a great deal of (dutch) summer festivals, including the free 300.000 people Parkpop festival. They’d also played, on designers invitation, at a fashion show in Paris.
Reviews of their November 2003 released EP “…From the Factory” were extremely positive: “It’s a beautiful cd with a, for our era, very peculiar idiom” and “MeloManics make dance songs without being dominantly electronic and rock music without sounding macho”.
Also national radio got an eye on the band and played their cd on regular basis. As a “thank you” the band supported de stations playing live in the studios.
For the band, 2006 will (again) be a productive year. They will release their first official 12-inch single in early april. After that there will be some extensive touring throughout the Netherlands.
Under the influence of a great deal of bands, such as: Kraftwerk, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Daftpunk, Zoot Woman, New Order, Faith no More, Devo, the Rapture, Primal Scream, NERD and Bloc Party they have created an ever increasing fanbase.
MeloManics sounds,--opzwepend---, organic and dirty as hell !!!

artist: Three cheers for Dirty
release: split 2, 12" (02-08)
music style: electropunk
from: Lille (F)
myspace: www.myspace.com/3cheers4dirty
short bio:
As a result of an unsuccessful alien abduction, 'Miss Wendy Pussy', member of a garage rock band, began showing too much interest for the electro sound, and was interned for ' musical schizophrenia'.
This is where she met Dsildah, a shabby guy. He thinks constantly travelling between two virtual worlds, one influenced by punk-rock & skate, the other rhythmed by filthy post-tekno beats.
So, being quite a revelation to the each other, they decide to unite their respective worlds into a common musical entity, named "Three cheers for dirty".
Rumour has it; they work in a nook of the basement B4, between the landerette and the garbage. Influenced by bands such as 'Les Georges Leningrad', 'T. Raumshmiere', 'Duchess Says', 'Kap Bambino' & 'Prodigy', 'Three Cheers for Dirty' make for some absolute unpredictable live acts, mixing a great deal of energy with a kind of arty happening.

artist: Mignon
release: some tunes (compilation cd (06-06)
music style: electropunk
from: Berlin (GER)
website: www.mignonmusic.com
myspace: www.myspace.com/mignon
short bio:
Preluded by a seductive melody and followed by distorted guitar. Mignon taunts the devil and raps:“...watch out lucifer, you´re dead meat, I´ll come one day to steal your noble seat!“....
„Catchy lyrics accompanied by electro groovebox, heavy metal guitar, and a highpitched rockbitch upfront. Mignon’s lyrics are as domineering as they are playful, demonic beats and slithering synthesisers crawl at her feet as she consumes and projects all the music’s hellish glory. Mignon the merciless never leaves a boast unwarranted; you’ll know this if you have ever caught one of her live performances. She will however, leave you enslaved by her metallic, satanic, rap trapping electro-voodoo Mignon´s live show, rocking and shocking, erupts with a violent combination of face-paint and smoke-bombs. Nurses and Military ensembles, fake knives and Freddy Kruger-esque gloves all get their turn. It’s almost as if Rob Zombie had raised her from the dead and sent one too many bolts of electricity to the brain. As Mignon heightens the pace, her heels flying far off the floor she performs with gratification and that alone compels you to dance like the devil.“
Mignon´s stage presence is so comanding that Peaches has taken her around the world. They charmed England at the Leeds and Reading Festival in 02.Australia and New Zealand for the „Big Day Out“ also Spain, Germany and Poland. They also sprayed the scent of rock while supporting „Queens Of The Stoneage“ and And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead in Northamerica through the fall of 2002.
Mignon has been steadily displaying her metalbitch performance to an enthusiastic audience since early 2002.She played at the New York Electroclash-Festival and Arthur Bakers Festival in London“ Return to NewYork „ opening for Pink Grease. Mignon played allover Europe and played Festivals in Germany,Switzerland and France, opening for Ellen Alien and Chicks on Speed. She also opened for ..Trail of Dead..“ in Germany on their Tour 2004.

Since 2002, Dj and producer KOOK and brasilian singer ROXXY BIONE are now a duo. Without a doubt, they are typical dirty and dancable berlin electro and rock´n´roll.
Important to them: No run of the mill concert atmosphere. They prefer people to dance and freak out, not just swaying to the music. KOOK FEAT. ROXXY BIONE don´t hide behind a labtop, but submit microphone stands and stage floor to gruelling tests.
The music´s charm is a result of glamorous pop, rockin´ electro sounds and groovy dance - often crowned with driving singing.

artist: The Scandals
release: some tunes (compilation cd (06-06)
music style: electro
from: Berlin (D)
website: www.thescandals.co.uk
short bio:
„Hey DJ, get the fuck out of my way, it’s the return of the performers!”
It’s with this announcement that the Berlin DJ-couple Steve Morell and Emma Eclectic aka. The Scandals take their places behind the DJ desk. “Back to the performance” also means something in a broader sense to The Scandals. Selected artists come together under their Pale Music label and each one is a performer in their own right. The Scandals at first concentrated on the large demand for remixes before releasing on 12” their first original track, My Life Nightlife, in August followed by their eagerly-awaited debut remix album, Cut Outs, Patchworks and Rip Offs, in September.
A DJ Couple For two years now, clubbers all over Europe have enjoyed and appreciated the wild mixture of styles served to them by the Berlin DJ couple. The crowd dances to whatever cuts from future rock ‚n’ roll, punk rock, new wave and electro that they throw onto their turntables. More well known artists such as Arctic Monkeys, Le Tigre and The Gossip collide with less well-known tracks from the likes of Peaches, Warren Suicide, Neonman and Punx Soundcheck. Emma and Steve mix together a variety of musical genres based on their own tastes and impulses to create a unique experience.
Heads of Pale Music Int. As born-performers, Steve and Emma see themselves, above all, “live on stage”. The frightening changes taking place within the music industry inspired Steve to found Pale Music International as too many interesting and challenging bands and artists were being ignored by major labels. Since its formation, Pale has released music from artists such as Glamour to Kill, Mignon, Film2, Kook feat. Roxxy Bione, and Namosh. Today, Pale is the most popular underground label in Germany with acts like Punx Souncheck feat. Marc Almond, CIT, The Nihilists, Noblesse Oblige, Goldfish and Neonman.

short bio:
DJ Clockwork (1980) has been DJ-ing for 7 years now. He started off with hiphop music, but after a while felt the need to explore other sounds. He was already listening to electronic music and realised that he really wanted to put that power on the dancefloor. He quickly developed his own style which is recognised as electro, but also contains house-, funk-, techno- and acid influences. His sound can vary from subtle to raw ?electro?. Interacts with his audience, without compromising.
He started off in the south of Holland by organising his own parties during his graphic design specialisation, and was soon asked to play at other venues like; Ipanema (a-gogo), la Bonbonnière, Löss and Backstage in Maastricht. His party music was also picked up by other organisations like Electronation, who asked him to be one of their residents.
He is currently living in Amsterdam, still organising parties, and playing at lots of different places such as; Bitterzoet, Club 11 (MTV Club Cinema), Sugar Factory, Studio 80 and Paradiso, in Amsterdam; the Fast Forward Dance Parade in Rotterdam; and Dance Valley 2006!
Clockwork has a great passion for quality electronic music, and is really eager to let the people hear different music styles from labels such as Get Physical, Fine, Kitsune and Freak ?n? Chic, and from artists like Ame, Fransisco, Jesse Rose and Digitalism and integrates all of these into his own energizing sound.

myspace: myspace.com/deejaymno
Mixes online: www.tnieuwewerck.blogspot.com
short bio:
Dj MNO (realname Menno) was born and raised in Amsterdam.
The first time he got in contact with electronic music was probably about two decades ago when he listened to electric boogie and breakdance compilations including artists like Man Parrish and Grandmaster Flash. Music he still listens to.
But especially all the years that he is working at the local recordshop Concerto his musical taste was developed. Next to that he ‘worked’ for the pirate radio station Patapoe together with some friends producing a program called Psychozers.
Which was also their dj alias for a while, but thats history now.
As a dj his musical interests include raw electro, dirty disco, italo, 80s’, acid, breakbeat, tekno, psychedelic trance and lots of more. But dont worry: he also dislikes a lot.
His purpose is trying to combine these styles but sometimes he just sticks to just one of them. He played at local venues like Studio 80, OT 301, Ship Of Fools, Pakhuis Wilhelmina, The Winston, Flex Bar and some Legalize events. In 2004 and 2005 he even played abroad at his Irish friends Bass Entertainment parties in Dublin and Cork.
Some big events in 2006 were playing at Mysteryland on the Studio 80 stage and at the Robodock festival. At the end of 2006 he played at the Azart, Ship Of Fools in Tarragona, Spain. But one of his favorites of that year was playing a seven our set at the Use The Force party at a squatted location.
Next to that he played on regular basis at the Robotrock nights, the Dirty Disco parties at Studio 80 and he became a resident dj for Basserk.
